Tips to Ensure Your Moving Day is a Success

3/26/2019

If you have experienced moving before, you know that it is indeed one of the most stressful moments in your life. But, if this is your first time going through the process, all we can say is, good luck!

There are a lot of things to take care of when moving that is why we are not surprised to see thousands of articles online talking about how to reduce or eliminate the stress that comes with moving. Preparation is vital when it comes to a successful move. However, unexpected things can happen during your relocation; that is why you should be ready to handle these situations. Remember that there can be a lot of things that can happen even in the last hour of your move.

Here are four simple, yet effective tips to ensure you have a smooth moving day.

Make sure you have snacks and cash ready
Everyone will be busy on the day of your move. You may not have the luxury of preparing your favorite food in the kitchen; that is why it pays to prepare ready to eat snacks in case you go hungry. You can pack sandwiches so that you will have something to eat while the movers take care of your belongings. Don't forget to carry extra cash on you in case you need to buy something urgently, like a box of pizza.

Protect your house
You should never let your home unprotected even though you are leaving soon. It should never be an excuse to use floor runners to protect your floor from getting damaged while the movers transport your belongings out of your home. You should also put padding on your walls and door frames to protect them from furniture as they pass through them. Some moving companies provide these items, but if you are not sure they will, it will not hurt to ask them, so that you can prepare your home before the moving day arrives.

Keep your kids involved
Moving is a stressful day for you, but it can also be equally stressful for kids if you have them. Kids can especially feel the most inconvenience because they can't do the thing they usually have the pleasure of doing, such as playing around. You can have them involved by giving them simple tasks to encourage their sense of responsibility. Giving them individual tasks can also keep them in places that will not disrupt the movers.

Have a bag of essentials
Having a bag of essentials can save you from the hassle of going through all your valuables when moving is complete. Pack all your essentials in one bag, so that you can readily have access that you will use on your first day in your new home. This bag can include your toiletries, mobile phones and chargers, and change of clothes. You can also pack kitchen utensils if you are planning to cook on your first day in your new residence.

Use these practical tips to help you have a smooth and safe move. Happy moving!

Winter Moving Tips

2/1/2019

House in the winter with lights on
Moving can be challenging and tedious. The task will be all the more difficult if the weather is terrible. One of the most challenging things about moving is when you have to do it in winter. Ice, snow and the cold weather make it even more challenging to relocate, but you have to do it anyway. Plus, moving in winter has advantages, too because it is considered off-peak season for relocating. Thus you can save money because moving companies will charge you less.

We have listed some tips to help you have a smooth move from your old home to your new place.

5 Tips for Moving in Winter

  1. Clear the Area. The first and one of the most important things you need to do when moving in winter is to clear the way of ice and snow. They may cause accidents if you let them sit in your driveways, sidewalks, or in the place where you're moving. Aside from creating a hazard, failing to remove snow and ice may cause delay. You can put salt or sand over the ice to avoid accidents. If you hire professional movers, they can provide you with runners to keep entryways free from damage.
  2. Monitor the Weather and Have Plan B. Never fail to talk to the moving company you hired. If there is a need to reschedule the day of the move due to a snowstorm, you should let the coordinator know right away. Also, it is better to start the moving process in the morning to avoid having to work in the dark of the winter night.
  3. Pack Items that are Temperature-Sensitive. If you own anything that can be vulnerable to extreme cold, they should be insulated using a bubble wrap or be relocated by a warm car to avoid being damaged. Fine china and house plants are some examples of these items. Also, don't forget to get rid of liquids from your appliances and things that carry fluids because they can freeze in the cold.
  4. Ensure Your Vehicle is Ready. It will not be an issue if you hire a professional moving company to transport your valuables. You don't need to worry about getting lost in an unfamiliar way in the middle of a snow-filled road. The moving company will ensure the truck is well-maintained and is ready for the weather. You only need to think of your car when you use the service of a moving company. Make sure you have things to keep you warm inside the vehicle such as hats and gloves. Also, don't forget to bring salt and shovel because they might come in handy.
  5. Board Your Pets. During your move, you want your pets to be comfortable as much as possible, especially if you are moving in the extreme cold weather,

Bonus Tip: Always bring a shovel with you because you never know when you might need it. You might find your vehicle covered with snow and a shovel will be your best friend during the winter season.
